With a Blue Flag beach, plenty of places to eat and drink and laid-back atmosphere, Tsilivi (pronounced ‘silly vee’) has got just about everything you could wish for from a relaxing holiday. Originally a small village, it’s rapidly growing to become one of Zante’s favourite resorts – but still retains much of its original charm. The traditional Greek tavernas here are really worth writing home about, as is the long stretch of spotless sand. With watersports galore, plenty of entertainment and great value accommodation, Tsilivi holidays should tick all your boxes.
Most holidays to Tsilivi revolve around the beach. With its Blue Flag accolade and plentiful watersports, its easy to see why. But beyond the shoreline, theres plenty more to discover. The resort itself has mini golf and a small water park. Island capital Zakynthos Town is around 5km away: easily reached by bus or taxi, its home to a pretty harbour, shops, Byzantine church (housing the remains of the islands patron saint, Dionysis) and a religious art museum. Zakynthos town is also the gateway for a number of boat trips, including the one around the island that calls in at Smugglers Cove, the beautiful beach with a shipwreck that features on so many holiday brochures. You can also take a day trip to nearby Kefalonia, or head to the Peloponnese on the Greek mainland to see the original site of the Olympic Games at Olympia. If you fancy an adventure with plenty of culture and ancient history, its possible to take an overnight trip to Athens. Back on Zante, take an excursion to the water park, try scuba diving or head out on a 4x4 discovery of the islands rural interior.
Holidays to Tsilivi tend to attract families and couples more than late night revellers (they much prefer the bright lights and loud beats of Laganas.) But thats not to say this is a sleepy place youll find plenty of cocktail bars, karaoke joints and quizzes. Its good allround entertainment to suit those seeking the perfect balance between totally sedate and completely wild.
When it comes to food and drink, youre spoilt for choice in Tsilivi. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, which is one of the reasons why self catering holidays are so popular here. As well as excellent tavernas serving up a host of local dishes, youll find international eateries covering cuisine from Italy, China and Britain. Try one of the seafood restaurants on the beach for just cooked catch of the day.
