The weather in Tenerife is warm and sunny almost all year round, with temperatures ranging from the late teens in winter to above the mid twenties in the summer. The island is Spanish, but it's actually located close to the Atlantic coast of North Africa, which explains why it's sunny even in winter. Mount Teide divides the island in two, with the south enjoying drier, warmer winters than the slightly cooler, wetter north. November and December are the rainiest months, but the long, warm days mean Tenerife's still a great destination for a dose of winter sun.
Things to see & do
You might think holidays in Tenerife are all about laying back and enjoying that sunshine, but there's much more to do besides. Take the cable car up Mount Teide and marvel at the spectacular national park that surrounds this stunning peak. For family fun, experience the thrills and spills at one of the island's water parks, or head to one of the animal attractions, which include the awardwinning Loro Parque. There are plenty of boat trips available off Tenerife don't miss a voyage to Los Gigantes cliffs, or the neighbouring island La Gomera. Explore the untouched north of the island, home to banana plantations and Canarian architecture. Island capital Puerto de la Cruz boasts great chain stores and boutiques. As well as all this, holidays to Tenerife offer golf, tennis, diving, snorkelling, hiking, biking and horse riding opportunities. No wonder holidays in Tenerife are so popular!
The hub of nightlife in Tenerife is Playa de las Americas, home to the famous Veronicas seafront strip. 'Las Americas' is busy all year round, but in the summer months, it's very popular with 1830 year olds seeking a lively holiday. Elsewhere on the island, Los Cristianos and Puerto de la Cruz offer karaoke bars, fun pubs and a few discos. In quieter areas of Tenerife, entertainment is often hotelbased.
Food & drink
Canarian tapas, wine and other specialities are available throughout Tenerife, but you'll find the most traditional restaurants in the northern region. Down south, the main resorts serve up a good mixture of local, international and British cuisine. Choose from a mixture of restaurants, cafs, bars and fast food joints.
