Here at Hays Travel in South Shields we have been involved with three recent local community projects.
At the end of October it was the Charlie Cookson Foundation Ball, which we support every year by donating prizes for the auction. The Charlie Cookson Foundation offer financial support for parents of seriously ill children and their annual fundraising event consists of a three course dinner, live band, DJs, raffle and auction. This year over 250 people attended and more than £10,000 was raised. We donated a £200 Hays Travel voucher, as well as an overnight Valentines’ stay at Beamish Hall with afternoon tea, and a DFDS Seaways mini-cruise for two.
We have recently supported the opening of the new Charlie Cookson shop in South Shields which was opened by Faye from STEPS, our branch provided cakes to raffle off raising much needed money. This was a really well supported event by the local community and the shop was only open for 1 hour and raised over £600! Our Deb even got on the telly!!
We have also been busy organising our annual line dancing event to raise money for the South Shields Alzheimer Society. This year proved to be the biggest and the best event we’ve ever had! The evening consists of bingo and a raffle - which we donate the prizes for – and, of course, plenty of line dancing! All of the staff from our branch attended; it was a really great night with a fantastic atmosphere. And this year we managed to raise £900!
Lastly, we have donated £100 to Ashley Primary & Junior School so that the children can go to the Christmas pantomime at the Customs House theatre. Our donation pays for the tickets, as well as refreshments for the kids.
