The climate on Skiathos is typically Mediterranean, with the island enjoying a long sunny holiday season and mild winters. Summers are bright, clear and dry, with most days seeing at least 10 hours of sunshine. The average temperature in June is 23ºC, rising to 25ºC during July and August, with occasional highs of almost 30ºC with very little rainfall. During the height of summer, the 'meltemi' winds from the north pick up, bringing cooling breezes to the island. Spring temperatures reach between 16ºC and 20ºC, April and May are still relatively dry months and there is on average 8 hours of sunshine every day. Autumn sees temperatures similar to the springtime, with the sun still shining for 9 hours a day. Winter temperatures are still very mild, dropping to around 11ºC and the island seeing about 4 hours of sunshine a day. October sees the start of the rain, with November, December and January being the wettest months, with an average of 150mm of rainfall during this time.
Things to see & do

With over 60 beaches on offer, youll be spoilt for choice on which one to choose on your Skiathos holiday. The crystal clear waters surrounding the island are just perfect for snorkelling. Visit the Kounistras Monastery, the Evangilistria Monastery or take a boat excursion to the caves of Galatzia, Haliki and Skotini. Explore the neighbouring island of Skopelos where the Mama Mia was filmed. There is a regular bus service that runs up and down the main roads during the summer months. Scooters are also available for hire. The island is particularly popular with hikers and bikers who come to explore the lush mountainous island.

The nightlife of Skiathos is chic and sophisticated, especially during peak season when the town are in full swing with locals and visitors alike. Skiathos Town offers plenty of lively nightlife including pulsating bars, discos and nightclubs. Or if you prefer something more traditional, enjoy a meal and a drink in a local taverna accompanied by bouzouki music and dancing. Catch a show in the summer theatre at Bourtzi.

Food & drink

Youll find a good selection of restaurants on Skiathos from local tavernas to international eateries. Locally caught fish and seafood is a popular choice. Start your meal with a mezze of appetisers including taramosalata, tzatziki and dolmades and follow with traditional Greek favourites of mousakka or calamari with baklava or Greek yoghurt with honey for dessert.
