Most holidays to Sardinia tend to happen during the summer months, when the island enjoys all the perks of the Mediterranean climate. Summer runs from May to October, with more chance of rain at the beginning and end of the season. Temperatures throughout summer often peak in the twenties, with the mercury often reaching 30ºC in the peak months of July and August, however sea breezes make temperatures more bearable in the coastal areas. Winters tend to be mild and wet, although snow does tend to fall on the mountains.
Things to see & do

Many Sardinia holidays revolve around the islands beaches. From strips of white sand peppered with sunbeds and watersports centres, to secluded and rugged coves, there are plenty of beautiful seaside spots here. Away from the coast, hikers and horse riders love to explore the mountainous terrain and stunning scenery. The main towns of the island offer plenty of architectural and cultural gems, thanks to an interesting past influenced by Romans, Catalonians and Genoans. Great day trips in Sardinia include the fascinating Neptune Caves, inland 4x4 safaris, Big Red Bus tours and numerous boat trips. If you fancy a change of scenery, take a relaxing cruise through cyan waters to the French island of Corsica.

When the sun sets in Sardinia, the pace of life depends largely on whereabouts on the island you are. Around Olbias central square, youll find plentiful bars spilling over with people, in Alghero, the cafe culture and winding streets make for a wonderful atmosphere after dark. If youre in Cagliari, people watch at one of the portside bars, then head on to the Citadel, where youll find the late night clubs. Many hotels in Sardinia lay on their own evening entertainment. Throughout the island, youll find a convivial atmosphere where sitting outside in the evenings is the norm. Look out for festivals, too Sardinia has a packed calendar which includes celebrations of everything from beer to jazz music.

Food & drink

Food is big news in Sardinia. From the freshlycaught fish in the harbours, through to the fresh fruit and vegetables growing in the mountains, delicious cuisine is part and parcel of holidays here. Pull up a chair at a pavement cafe and watch the world go by as you dine. The pizza and pasta dishes on the island have to be tasted to be believed and the wine is also very good.
