Here at Hays Travel Ringwood, we’re passionate about helping the local community and fundraising for worthy causes. At the moment, we’re helping local schoolchildren learn about caring for plants by funding flower beds on school grounds for them to look after. An excellent way to educate them about the great outdoors, we think!
Earlier this year, we used our branch as a drop-off centre for the collection of old mobile phones to support ‘Fund for Sophie and DIPG’. This is a charity for a young girl who was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma DIPG, which is a rare brain cancer with no cure. These phones were exchanged for much-needed communication equipment to enable Sophie to continue daily life throughout her illness. Sadly in April, only ten months after diagnosis, Sophie passed away. We are so glad that we helped to make her dreams of visiting Disneyland Paris and Lapland come true, and are waiting for the charity to be officially registered so we can carry on supporting research. Our branch and Sophie's parents are currently supporting Julia's House, which gave the family so much support at such a difficult time.
Recently, we held a homemade cake stall at Ringwood Carnival and raised over £150. We also plan to host a ‘Big Quiz Night’ at New Year, alongside a raffle or auction with donations of all kinds from local businesses.
