Rhodes benefits from the desirable Mediterranean climate of hot, sunny summers and mild winters. The island’s 300 days of sunshine per year have helped make it the popular tourist destination it is today.
Things to see & do

Holidays in Rhodes tend to centre around it stunning beaches, but there's more to do here than relax in the sun. There are a huge choice of sports on Rhodes, including an 18hole, par72 championship golf course, scuba diving, tennis, paragliding and squash. Visit the island in spring or autumn to enjoy hiking in the dramatic hills when it's not too hot. The Valley of the Butterflies just outside Theologos is a particularly popular spot. You'll find a good choice of souvenir shops in most resorts, but don't miss the traditional shops and stalls of Rhodes Town, with their pretty handicrafts and art for sale. For a change of scenery and a great day out, take a boat trip to the neighbouring islands of Kos and Symi. Rhodes has lots of Ancient Greek cultural sites that beg to be discovered, including the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes Old Town and the Acropolis at Lindos. Great family days out include the Rhodes Aquarium and Faliraki's water park.

Nightlife on Rhodes varies, depending on the resort you choose to stay in. Faliraki is made up of two main strips, nicknamed Bar Street and Club Street, which pretty much sums up the nightlife of this legendary resort. After a brief spell of sleepiness, it's back firmly on the clubbing map, with 2010's beach parties apparently some of Europe's best.

Like most of Rhodes' main resorts, Lindos gets busy in summer, with a mix of tavernas, karaoke bars and hilltop chillouts. For a sophisticated night out, Rhodes Towns old quarter is packed with classy restaurants, bouzouki clubs and trendy bars, not to mention a casino. The new part of Rhodes Town has somewhere in the region of 600 discos and bars, generally centred around Top Street and the Street of Bars. Many hotels lay on inhouse entertainment whilst in quieter resorts, sitting on the balcony and enjoying a glass of wine is the order of the day (or night.)

Food & drink

On Rhodes, great wine and freshly cooked Greek cuisine are best enjoyed al fresco in one of the island's traditional tavernas. As you'd expect from a holiday island, there's more also a good choice of international food available in the larger resorts. Think Italian, Chinese, Indian and even fast food. For great value for money, stay at an all inclusive hotel, where snacks, drinks and buffetstyle meals are usually included in the cost of your holiday.
