Located within the Famugusta area of South East Cyprus, Protaras is famed for its 4-mile stretch of golden beach, which gently shelves into the sea - perfect for families. Favourite local beaches include Pernera Beach, Kepparris Beach and Fig Tree Bay. Coast paths connect Protaras with nearby Ayia Napa, via a series of sea caves, scenic cliffs and ancient ruins. For a change of scenery, head inland to explore Nicosia, the Troodos Mountains or the villages of Liopetri and Paralimni. When the sun goes down, Protaras has bars, clubs, pubs and discos to enjoy or the livelier resort of Ayia Napa is just a taxi ride away The resort is family-orientated and has a good range of accommodation to choose from including self-catering apartments and hotels. Protaras enjoys a dry Mediterranean climate typical of nearby resorts on the east coast of the island of Cyprus. Summers are long and hot with an almost unfairly generous helping of sunshine. Winters are short, mild and receive light rainfall. Weather conditions are very similar to those in Farmagusta which is just northwest up the coast from Protaras.
Things to see & do

The beach is the main focus of holidays in Protaras but there's plenty to keep active guests busy too! For culture, there's museums, churches and monasteries. There's also Prophet Elias, which is on a 100 foot hill, which has a fantastic view of the whole town from the top. Protaras has the fabulous Fig Tree Bay which stretches over 10 miles of sandy beach number of water sporting activities are offered on the beach, including parasailing and windsurfing. Family attractions include a local water park and the vast Water World at Apia Naya.

Although the resort is well known for being family orientated it has good choice of taverns, nightclubs and bars. Those with children may wish to check the location of their hotel prior to booking to ensure they are not too near the nightclubs, etc.

There is a wide variety of restaurants to tempt your tastebuds in Protaras. Thai, Italian and Indian cuisine features on menus together with local favourites including halloumi cheese and freshlycaught fish and seafood.
