Set around a pretty bay, the popular resort of Kokkari has beaches with a good choice of watersports and are lined with family-run tavernas. The resort comes alive in the evening with lively bars and clubs popular with the young crowd. The former fishing villages of Pythagorion and Ireon are also a popular choice. Pythagorion, the birthplace of Pythagoras, is the busiest tourist resort on the island and offers a popular sandy beach, busy street cafes and a harbour front promenade The resort of Ireon has long beaches and hidden coves with a wealth of water sports and boat rides to enjoy. Samos Town, Pythagorion and Karlovassi all have pretty good range of shops to explore with everything from designer boutiques to more traditional craft shops on offer. Things To Do
The beaches and coves dotted around the island are the centre of daytime life on a holiday on the island of Samos. There’s an abundance of water sports to enjoy for the more active. Take a boat trip from Samos Town over to Kusadasi in Turkey. The pine forests and mountain slopes are a popular choice for hikers. The Temple of Hera and the Eupalinos Tunnel are well worth a visit too. Enjoy a wine-tasting at one of the island’s vineyards. Relax in the thermal baths in Samos Town.
Food & Drink
Samos offers lots of options for dining out. In the larger towns, tavernas rub shoulders with international restaurants, pizzerias and fast food joints, while in the villages restaurants are more traditional. Freshly caught fish and seafood feature on many menus. Sample a traditional mezze of appetisers or Greek salad and follow with the Greek favourites of mousakka or calamari with for dessert. Be sure to try the local wine with your meal - the Golden Samena in particular is excellent.
In The Evening
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to nightlife on Samos. Head to Samos Town where the waterfront bars and the clubs in the town are lively until the early hours. Kokkari and its bars and clubs are popular with the younger crowd. Enjoy a traditional Greek night in a taverna and join in with the bouzouki music and dancing. Catch a film at the open-air cinema in Pythagorion in the summer months.
