Lesbos

Belonging to the Aegean islands, Lesbos is the third largest Greek Island. Lesbos is also known as the ‘Emerald Island’ with its tree-covered mountains, lush pine forests, hot springs, unspoiled beaches and rolling olive groves, not forgetting its abundance of wildlife. On the northern edge of the island is the beautiful village of Molivos - renowned for its picturesque harbour, hilltop Venetian castle, traditional tavernas, bustling flea market and cobbled streets. On the southern coast of Lesbos is Plomari, the ouzo capital of Greece. Plomari is home to several ouzo factories and the Barbayiannis Ouzo Museum. Set on the west of Lesbos is the small fishing village of Sigri, with its charming harbour, colourful fishing boats and traditional tavernas. No holiday on the Lesbos is complete without a visit to the island's capital - Mytilini is a busy coastal city built around an old harbour, with a maze of cobbled streets, bustling markets, traditional cafes, and interesting museums. The old part of the city contrasts with the modern town with its busy shopping centres and hotels and is also home to the Byzantine Mytilini Castle. This island has everything from luxury hotel complexes to small family-run establishments, simple B&Bs, apartments, studios and basic campsites. With so much choice, it’s easy to see why the island of Lesbos is the perfect choice for a relaxing sunshine holiday with family and friends.

Things To Do
The wonderful beaches on Lesbos are an obvious draw during the daytime, but there are lots of other things to experience too. Try your hand at a range of water sports, such as parasailing and the ever-popular windsurfing. Explore the island’s wonderful landscapes by donkey or horseback, bike, jeep or on foot. The best way to see the coast and giant bays of Lesbos is on a sailboat. Visit the Petrified Forest of Lesbos which is located in the western part of the island.
Food & Drink
There are a wide selection of restaurants to choose from on Lesbos, serving everything from traditional greek food plus international choices and fast food including souvlaki, pizzas and hamburgers. Locally-caught fish and seafood are reasonably priced and feature on many menus. Start your meal with a mezze of appetisers including taramosalata, tzatziki and dolmades and follow with traditional Greek favourites of mousakka or calamari with baklava for dessert. Be sure to try the island’s own ‘ouzo’ – the strong, aniseed-flavoured local liqueur.
In The Evening
The nightlife on Lesbos is more low-key than the more popular islands. In the capital you'll find bars, discos and night clubs for a lively night out. For a peaceful restaurant meal, choose one of the many tavernas in the coastal resorts where you can have a beautiful view of the sea while you eat. There are one or two cinemas if you fancy a film and you might be lucky enough to experience one of the local traditional festivals during your stay.
