Costa Almeria

To the south east of the Iberian peninsular is the Costa Almeria. Boasting over 200 miles of dramatic coastline, the Costa Almeria is lined with quiet clean beaches, picturesque fishing ports, busy tourist towns and the historic capital Almeria. The popular beach resorts, including Mojacar to the east and Almerimar, Anguadulce and Roquetas de Mar to the west, are an ideal choice for families, couples and friends looking for a peaceful holiday. Try out the water sports, with many of the major beaches having scuba diving and snorkelling centres on them. On dry land, there are plenty of activities and entertainment to enjoy, with golf a popular pastime. There’s also an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from in each resort. The region is also home to the stunning Sierra Nevada, Las Alpujarras, the Natural Parks of Cabo de Gata-Nijar and Sierra María-Los Vélez and the Desert of Tabernas. This unique landscape has also provided the backdrop to many movies including A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and Indiana Jones and the Lost Crusade. The Costa Almeria’s healthy climate of lots of sunshine and very little rain makes for an all-year round holiday destination.

Things To Do
Holidays on the Costa Almeria revolve around the coast and, with so many spectacular sandy beaches, the facilities for water sports are excellent. Water skiing, windsurfing and sailing are the main sea based activities and Cabo de Gata, with its picturesque beach and crystal-clear waters, is particularly popular with scuba divers. Visit the waterpark and aquarium at Roquetas de Mar. Spend a day at one of the Wild West style theme parks of Oasys Theme Park, Fort Bravo and Western Leone, some of which are still being used as film locations. Costa Almeria is also a popular choice with golfers with a good range of courses to choose from. Hikers and mountain bikers have the lunar landscape of the Sierra Alhamilla for both nature walking and bird watching. For the best shopping head to shops and malls in the capital city Almeria.
Food & Drink
Traditional tapas bars are a popular dining out choice on the Costa Almeria with typical menus including small fish, meat, rice and salad dishes. There’s also a good selection of restaurants to choose from with seafood featuring on many menus and British, Italian and Chinese fare is available too. Try a glass of local wine or enjoy a glass of traditional sangria or cava.
In The Evening
Although the majority of the Costa Almeria area has a low key nightlife, towns such as Roquetas de Mar and Almeria do have a selection of busier cafes and beach front discos to enjoy in the evening. Dine in a traditional restaurant with a glass of wine or two as you watch the world go by...that's the Costa de Almeria way.
