Zante's largest and liveliest resort is home to a long sweep of sandy beach and a long strip of bars and clubs. Holidays in Laganas are about late night parties and days spent chilling out. No wonder they're so popular with the young and lively set, who flock here every summer. Cocktail and karaoke bars, restaurants, pubs, clubs and discos all line the main strip that leads down to the sea.
The bay is home to endangered loggerhead turtles who lay their eggs on the sand at night. Most accommodation is in simple style, in bed and breakfast hotels or self-catering apartments. A handful of four star all inclusive properties are located far enough from the main strip for families to be able to enjoy the gently-shelving beach without being kept awake by the rowdy crowds.
