Agios Nikolaos holidays

Agios Nikolaos

Agios Nikolaos is a pretty waterside resort with a good range of accommodation to suit all kinds of holidaymakers. One of the most photographed places on the island of Crete is the Agios Nikolaos port. Built around a so-called ‘bottomless’ lake, which is linked to the sea by a narrow canal, the area around the lake is full of cafés, restaurants and bars. Cultural highlights include the Folk Museum with its fascinating exhibits, the town’s namesake church and the Archaeological Museum with its artefacts of ancient Crete. For retail therapy there’s the Wednesday morning market and the local shops filled with finely crafted jewellery. The island of Spinalonga, which sits just off the coast of Agios Nikolaos, is also worth a visit. When you want to kick back and relax, take a stroll down to one of the town’s small, pebbly coves. Agios Nikolaos is the perfect holiday destination for families and couples alike.

Things To Do
Like any Greek island, holidays in Agios Nikolaos start with the beaches and watersports galore. Try your hand at jet skiing, banana boat rides, scuba-diving, windsurfing, paragliding, canoeing and sailing. Take a jeep safari and explore the mountain villages off the beaten track. Enjoy a boat trip from the harbour and discover hidden coves and tiny inlets, as well as to the islands of Spinalonga and Kolokitha Beach.
Food & Drink
A holiday to Agios Nikolaos is the perfect opportunity to sample the delights of Greek cuisine. Enjoy fresh seafood and local specialities like moussaka and meze. As well as charming tavernas, you'll find British-style pubs and restaurants. The island is also famous for its wines and ouzo.
In The Evening
Agios Nikolaos was once the busiest resort on Crete, but these days, revellers tend to head to the clubbing mecca of Malia. There's still a vibrant nightlife scene in Agios Nikolaos, but it's not as rowdy as it used to be. Choose from romantic seafront tavernas and lively harbour-side bars.
