Cuba

Most holidays in Cuba are centred around the miles of beautiful beaches, but there's much more to do besides sunbathing. Inland, discover stunning tropical scenery and delve into this country's fascinating history. Varadero is Cuba's liveliest resort and is lined with a good mix of budget and luxury beach front hotels. It's close to Havana, meaning you can easily visit the iconic capital with its unique architecture and vintage cars. Elsewhere, Guardalavaca and Playa Pesquero have all-inclusive hotels with in-house entertainment and water sports galore. Some of Cuba's best kept secrets are its cayos: Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Santa Maria are tiny islands off the mainland. The white sand, impossibly clear seas and relaxed atmosphere make them a paradise for romantic getaways and affordable honeymoons. Add to all this virtually year-round good weather and it's easy to work out why holidays in Cuba are such good value for money.

Things To Do
Water sports, swimming with dolphins, Jeep safaris, fishing, golf and boat trips – there's no shortage of things to do on holidays in Cuba. When it comes to excursions, you're spoilt for choice too. The must-see stop is capital Havana, with its cobbled streets, salsa sounds and colourful heritage. History buffs shouldn't miss a trip to Santiago de Cuba, birthplace of the revolution and Santa Clara, where Che Guevara is buried. Other good days out include cigar factory tours and exploring Cuba's national parks and sugar plantations.
Food & Drink
Cuban food mixes Spanish, African and Caribbean influences for a taste that's spicy and unique. Most beach hotels are all-inclusive and the meals served in these combine local food with international outlets – think Italian, Oriental and steakhouses. Don't miss a taste of Cuba's legendary rum.
In The Evening
Varadero does have a good range of bars and restaurants along its numbered streets, but most nightlife in Cuban beach resorts is hotel-based. Entertainment ranges from salsa dancing to family friendly shows, nightclubs and discos. After dark, Havana comes alive, with unmistakably local rhythms and a distinctly Latino atmosphere.
