On Spain's Costa Brava is the popular holiday resort of Tossa de Mar. Lush green valleys and pine forests provide the backdrop for this pretty town with its cobbled streets and a magnificent castle. Two sand and shingle blue flag beaches line the water’s edge – Platja Gran, the resort’s main horseshoe-shaped beach, edged with bars and cafés, is the perfect spot to while away a few hours in the sunshine or to join in the watersports on offer. Just a short walk away, Mar Menuda’s clear waters are ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. Take a stroll up to medieval walled Tossa Old Town to visit the statue of the resort's most-famous visitor Ava Gardner and for the best views across the bay. Tossa de Mar has many good-value hotels and apartments to choose from and is the perfect holiday destination for couples and families with just a 2-hour flight from the UK.

Things To Do
The beaches are the centre of daytime life in Tossa de Mar – the perfect places to relax and chill in the sun or try out the range of water sports on offer. Visit the Municipal Museum with its archaeological artefacts, Roman mosaics and contemporary artworks including the famous The Celestial Violinist by Mark Chagall. Explore the rocky coastline and marine life on a boat trip. For golfers, there are many courses to tackle on the Costa Brava.
Food & Drink
Tossa de Mar has a good range of restaurants to choose from serving everything from fast food to international fare. Sample the local Spanish cuisine in one of the family-run fish restaurants - the ‘catch of the day’ is a favourite with a glass of local wine. Traditional Sangria and the region’s cavas and Torres wines make a good accompaniment to your meal.
In The Evening
As a family-orientated resort, evening entertainment in Tossa de Mar is fairly low key with much of it being hotel-based. There are a number of lively bars that remain open after midnight, but those seeking all-night partying would be better served in nearby Lloret de Mar. A quiet meal in a seaside taverna, washed down with local wines, is the perfect end to the day in this laid-back resort.
