With year-round warmth, purpose-built resorts and outstanding natural beauty, holidays in Lanzarote are hard to beat. This Canary Island is laced with miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. Inland, the lunar landscapes and hot geysers of Timanfaya National Park are jaw-dropping. The busiest resort is Puerto del Carmen, with a heady mix of bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. For a quieter Lanzarote holiday, head to Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca. Local regulations on island development mean that you won't find high-rise hotel blocks or billboard advertising here. This is a legacy left behind by artist Cesar Manrique, who insisted that no building should be higher than Lanzarote's tallest palm tree. Mix a host of entertainment and activities, a wide choice of hotels and apartments, with just a 4-hour flight to Lanzarote from UK departure airports and it’s easy to see why a holiday in Lanzarote has something for everyone.
Holidays in Lanzarote revolve around the beach, so it's no surprise that there are plenty of watersports on offer. Jet ski hire, diving and boat trips are all available and Lanzarote is home to some of the best surfing and windsurfing beaches in Europe. Away from the shores, play golf, or ride a bike or a horse across the unique Lanzarote terrain. For a great family day out, visit the water park, Rancho Texas zoo, or take a dive in Lanzarote's very own yellow submarine. For a great day's shopping, head to the island capital, Arrecife. Don't miss a guided tour of volcanic Timanfaya Park, or a visit artist Cesar Manrique's unique lava bubble house.
Food & Drink
Lanzarote's traditional cuisine combines Spanish influences with those from Latin America and Africa. You're most likely to find food like this in Arrecife, or in small towns and villages throughout the island. In the main resorts, international dishes are the order of the day, with a great choice of Chinese, Italian, Indian and British restaurants. Sample the local wine, or try Spanish-style tapas and sangria. Half board and all inclusive holidays are a great value, popular choice if you prefer to eat at your hotel.
In The Evening
Arrecife, the island’s capital, comes alive at night, with lots of traditional Spanish-style bars and a smattering of clubs. All of Lanzarote's resorts have bars and discos, but the liveliest resort is Puerto del Carmen, with plenty of pubs and late night venues to choose from. Many hotels lay on in-house entertainment, with child-friendly discos and shows in specialist family complexes.

The weather in Lanzarote is warm and sunny almost all year round, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 28 degrees in the summer to 19 to 21 degrees in the winter. Summers are generally dry everywhere on the island, although the northern half tends to have more cloud cover. In winter, the island can get windy, but it is still warm and sunny. November and December are the rainiest months, but the long, warm days mean Lanzarote's still a great destination for winter sunshine.
