The northern edge of the Gulf of Hammamet in Tunisia is home to the popular resort of Hammamet. Once a sleepy fishing village, Hammamet has developed into a cosmopolitan destination with abundant hotels, tasty restaurants, great shopping and a chic night time scene. Daytimes centre on sunbathing on the three kilometre stretch of white sands, with its azure waters providing the perfect venue for watersports. Away from the beach, the three professional golf courses are favourites with golfers. Retail therapy is easy with a lively Medina full of local wares in the Old Town and fashionable boutiques in the modern part of town. The palm tree lined promenade is the place to head in the evening. Sit back and watch the world go by with a glass or two of wine or dine on local specialities in a restaurant. There are a couple of state of the art nightspots of the edge of town for party animals. If you want to explore further afield, the lively city of Tunis is 65kms away and the historic city of Carthage is 75kms from Hammamet. With so much to experience in one place, it is easy to see why Hammamet is a popular choice for Tunisia holidays.
