Destinations in Costa Brava:
Holidays in Lloret de Mar
Far more than a popular package destination, holidays in the Costa Brava, the 'Wild Coast' offer beautiful landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. The Costa Brava features 100 miles of rugged coastline with beautiful sandy beaches, secluded coves, picturesque fishing villages and modern tourist resorts. Holidays in the Costa Brava offer a range of cultural and historical attractions such as the medieval town of Besalu, the hilltop Sant Ferran Castle, the 18th-century Santa Caterina Church, the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria del Palau, and the Dali Museum in Figueres.
Holidays in the Costa Brava are often based in the resorts of Blanes, Tossa de Mar, Estartit and Lloret de Mar. The 2.5-mile stretch of Blanes coastline is comprised of long sandy beaches, rocky coves and a yacht marina offering a wealth of water sports. The pretty town of Tossa de Mar is set against a backdrop of verdant hills and lush valleys, with charming cobblestone streets and an ancient castle. The former fishing village of Estartit is a small, relaxed family resort set at the foot of the Montgri Mountain range and flanked by nine miles of sandy beaches and rocky outcrops. Estartit boasts one of the longest sandy beaches on the Costa Brava.
Lloret de Mar holds the title for the liveliest resort on the Costa Brava and is especially popular with the 18-30s crowd seeking big-name DJs, foam parties and thumping nightclubs. But the resort is also popular with families for its relaxed beaches and the Universal Studios Port Aventura Theme park, Europe's biggest water park, located nearby. Another family favourite is Marineland near Blanes, with its water slides, animal shows and children's zoo.
