Lesbos 'Emerald Island' is a land of verdant mountains, lush pine forests, hot springs, unspoiled beaches, and rolling olive groves. As one might expect, this beautiful natural scenery is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Belonging to the Aegean islands, Lesbos is the third largest Greek island, after Crete and Evia, and measures approximately 630 square miles. Many of the resorts are dotted around the coast, where visitors will find beautiful beaches, charming villages and picturesque landscapes.
Holidays in Lesbos are not complete without a visit to the island's capital. Mytilini is a busy coastal development built around an old harbour, with a maze of cobbled streets, bustling markets, traditional cafes, and interesting museums. This old city is juxtaposed against a modern town with busy shopping centres, hotels and tourist excursions. The capital is also home to the Byzantine Mytilini Castle, with its spectacular sea views. Holidays in Lesbos often centre round the tourist resorts of Molivos, Plomari and Sigri.
On the northern edge of Lesbos is the most beautiful village on the island. Molivos is renowned for its picturesque harbour, hilltop Venetian castle and little stone houses with red-tiled rooftops. The village oozes Greek charm with its traditional tavernas, bustling flea market and cobbled streets. On the southern coast of Lesbos is Plomari, the ouzo capital of Greece. Plomari is home to several ouzo factories and the Barbayiannis Ouzo Museum. It is also a town of grand mansions, colourful old houses and relaxed street cafes. Set on the west of Lesbos is the small fishing village of Sigri, with its charming harbour, colourful fishing boats and traditional tavernas.
