Many of the beaches offer a wealth of water sports, including wind surfing, jet skiing, parasailing and scuba diving. Those who fancy a break from the beach can haggle for bargains at the bustling bazaars and explore the ancient walled medinas and mosques. Alternatively, if you can't get to grips with haggling, Monastir offers a large modern shopping centre.

Holidays in Tunisia offer a good choice of sightseeing excursions. Visitors can enjoy jeep safaris or camel treks in the Sahara desert, visit the Roman ruins of Carthage and El-Jem, and explore the salt lake at Chott El Djerid. Evenings in Tunisia are relatively low-key, spent tasting delicious locally caught seafood, drinking cocktails at the relaxed beach bars, and watching traditional folklore shows. Many of the larger hotels host lively discos with dancing into the early hours.
