Traditional ski village ideal for families and beginners looking to cruise the SkiWelt area. Ellmau is a picturesque resort with sweeping views of the Wilder Kaiser mountains and the SkiWelt area – Austria's largest linked ski area – at the back of the village. It caters for a sedate family-orientated audience, so those looking for nightlife should head to the neighbouring resorts Söll and Kitzbühel.
Ellmau is principally known as a family ski resort, and the easy access to beginners' lifts in the village is one reason for that verdict. Intermediate skiers also have a flattering area of easier runs at the top of the Hartkaiser mountain railway where younger skiers can practise the skills that have learnt on the lower slopes. Going is a smaller village with its own hill - the Astberg - at the edge of the main SkiWelt area. The rest of the resorts are accessed through the Ellmau ski area.
