Ski Holidays to Austria

Austria's ski resorts are among the prettiest in the world; traditional Tyrolean villages are dotted with chocolate-box houses and feature attractive, tree-lined slopes. Ski holidays in Austria combine picture-perfect scenery, extensive skiing for all levels, and a lively après ski scene. Many Austrian ski resorts open as early as November and don't close till the end of April. The major airports of Innsbruck, Salzburg, Munich, Klagenfurt and Friedrichshafen serve Austria's ski resorts.

Overview:

Ski holidays in Austria are often centred round Innsbruck. The medieval city of Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol, is surrounded by five ski resorts - all featuring stunning mountain slopes and extensive skiing for all levels of ability. One of the most renowned ski resorts in Europe is Seefeld, which has hosted the Olympic Winter Games and Nordic Ski World Championships, and boasts 124 miles of cross-country slopes. Some of the best skiing in Austria can be found in the exclusive resorts of Lech and Zurs, renowned for their perfect powder and wealthy clientele. Intermediate and expert skiers are attracted to the challenging upper slopes of St Anton am Arlberg, which reach more than 2,801 metres.

Ski holidays in Austria also feature some of the best glacier skiing in Europe; the Stubai Glacier offers 125 miles of ski pistes. Austria offers a lively après ski scene with various bars and lively discos. Resorts such as Mayrhofen, Saalbach and Solden are particularly well known for their energetic après ski. A large number of Austrian ski resorts also now feature wellness centres. After a busy day on the slopes you can treat aching muscles to a revitalising massage, hot tub and sauna.
