Oludeniz is a resort densely covered with small contemporary hotels, bars and restaurants, all of which are set behind a broad arc of white sandy beach and bounded by pine covered mountains. A well maintained promenade, with neatly lawned gardens, runs all along the length of the bay and is lined by shops, bars and restaurants.

Most of the lodging is situated further back. The region is famous for its wildlife including the loggerhead turtle, which now finds its mating habits disturbed by bright lights and disco music in the resort. Hence there have been some sensible strict controls that have come into force here. The resort can be easily be reached on foot with many paved roads and ‘partly pedestrian’ streets.

Attractions

A National Park is situated to the west of the resort on a long sand spit that separates the Mediterranean from Oludeniz tarn. A visit to various inspiring Greek and Roman archaeological venues in the surrounding areas can also be very informative. The popular Butterfly Valley and the ghost town of Kayakoyu is a must visit. Visitors can also take a hike on one of the many snaky paths along the hillsides and marvel the magnificent views and sights of peaceful Greek villages in the surrounding areas. Dalyan, which is a beautiful fishing village at the foot of the Dalyan River, is a popular day trip destination from Oludeniz.

Shopping

Oludeniz has numerous souvenir shops scattered all along the Belcekiz beach shore. Many resort hotels and residence blocks have their own gift shops and are always thronged by visitors looking for a good memento to take home. A minibus can be taken to Hisaronu or Fethiye to do the extensive shopping. Good buys include leather wares, tapestries, jewellery, fashionable sunglasses and watches. Many well maintained minimarkets can be found throughout the town. Markets are held at Hisaronu and Fethiye on Mondays and Tuesdays respectively. These markets are famous for designer clothes and a wide array of bags.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Oludeniz is a lot simpler when compared to the nearby resorts. Those looking for extensive and a more rollicking nightlife can take a short trip to Hisaronu or a little further to Fethiye and find abundance of action. The most admired waterfront bars are Buzz Beach Bar, the Sugar Shack and Crusoe's. Many local resort establishments offer live evening entertainment for guests at Oludeniz.

Activities

Oludeniz, with its eye catching blue-green waters, is among the most beautiful beaches in Turkey. Thus the water is the main attraction here, especially for the paragliders who come from all over the world to glide over the turquoise waters from atop the Babadag Mountain. Diving and snorkeling are the other frequented activities. Trips can be organized to the nearby places and a ‘must-do’ is the boat trip to the nearby 12 islands. Another vital experience is to enjoy a Turkish bath, available in many of the resort hotels.

Customs

Religious customs, particularly during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, should be strictly followed. While visiting religious shrines and mosques, it is advised to dress modestly. Photography should be avoided near military and official institutions and always ask permission when taking photographs of people.
