Luxor is known throughout Egypt for its extremes in both temperature and weather, with intensely hot and almost unbearable summers, and cooler, more pleasant winters. The weather in Luxor is dry for much of the year, resulting in a fairly arid landscape and a dusty environment at times.

Location

In general it is a tourist industry ready and willing to serve the people from many countries that descend on this area of the Nile Valley every year. Within Luxor, there are only three main streets consisting of Sharia al-Mahatta, Sharia al-Karnak and the Corniched, next to the Nile. The street in front of the train station is Sharia al-Mahatta and runs away from the Nile where it meets the gardens of Luxor Temple. Sharia al-Karnak runs along the Nile from Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple.

The most popular activities in Luxor are camel riding, felucca riding, caleche trips and ballooning.

Shopping

There are plenty of shops in Luxor to buy essential things you need, the prices vary and the shop keepers are very friendly. There are products such as shawls, carpets, glass and gold and silver jewellery available to buy and these products are very popular with tourists.

Transport

Getting around in Luxor is very simple and easy as there are many taxis available but when you get in a taxi agree a price before you set off. There is also a local bus that runs through Luxor if you want to take a day out it is ideal. The ferry in Luxor is also great for the adventurous type instead of sticking to the bus or taxis you could go on a ferry boat for a relaxing trip.

Nightlife

In Luxor there are many traditional restaurants and cafes available that serve up food, while you sit and watch the busy Nile passing by. Most of the restaurants serve alcohol such as wines and spirits but some do not.

Restaurants/Cuisine

There are many places available to eat at, from coffee shops to restaurants. While you have a drink or bit to eat you can relax and listen to the local folk music.
