Florida Expert Review

Andy Fielding (Age 41), Hays Longhaul Travel Expert says...

"Florida is one of those destinations that you never get tired off, it's constantly changing so no matter how many times you visit you will always find something new and exciting to do. The theme parks are great and the moment you step inside you are transported back to your childhood! The thrill of the roller coaster's are always there, where the emphasis is on bigger, faster and of course more frightening!!! Disney is just what it say's about itself – magical - and at 56 square miles and about the size of greater Manchester that's an awful lot of Magic. The shopping is great and the best buy's are the American big brands like Levi's, although the designer outlet malls offer some of the big names now! The food is also great but just remember order main course only because the portions are huge. Don't forget pack some informal comfy clothing, plenty of comfy shoes and have the time of your life!"

Walt Disney World Resort has to be seen to be believed! With four world famous Disney theme parks (Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom), two water-parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon), two night-time entertainment districts and numerous restaurants Disney World is a magical holiday experience with memories that will last a lifetime.

Universal Orlando Resort has two theme parks, Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure and is the ultimate movie and TV based theme park. With rides and experiences including The Simpsons, Jaws, Shrek and E.T, Universal is not to be missed!

Seaworld Orlando combines spectacular marine life with thrilling roller-coaster rides and amazing live shows. Get splashed by Shamu the whale and get up close to polar bears, whales and walrus before testing your nerves with a ride on Kraken, Orlando’s tallest and only floorless roller-coaster.

Busch Gardens, approximately an hour drive from Orlando, is an African themed entertainment park which combines thrilling rides, amazing animals and spectacular live shows. Don’t miss the Edge of Africa with hippos, hyenas, meerkats, vultures and crocodiles - this is the best safari experience outside of Africa!

The Kennedy Space Centre is located on Florida’s east coast. Here you can tour launch areas, meet a veteran astronaut, see giant rockets, and take part in an astronaut training programme!

Miami’s South beach with its stunning beaches, beautiful boutiques, top class restaurants and some of the hottest nightspots in the world, is the place to see and be seen! The Village of Merrick Park in Miami is a new luxury retail emporium or visit Lincoln Road for original boutiques alongside big-brand favorites. There’s fun for all the family with attractions including Parrot Jungle and Gardens, Miccosukee Indian Village and Airboat Rides, Monkey Jungle and the Miami Seaquarium.

Tipping is customary in the US and is expected almost everywhere. The average amount to tip is 15% in cafes, restaurants, bars, and hotels. Taxi drivers will expect the same. Airport porters will expect about $1 per bag and coach drivers on excursions will expect $2-$3.

Food & Drink

There are lots of restaurants to choose from on International Drive whether you are looking for a steak-house, seafood, ‘all you can eat’ buffets or international cuisine such as Italian, Mexican or Chinese. Or try a ‘dinner show’ with a medieval or western entertainment theme. Check out the Coconut Grove area in Miami for top-class eateries. Food in the theme-parks is mainly fast food such as pizza, hotdogs, burgers etc.

Nightlife

Walt Disney World has two night-time entertainment districts with fun for all the family featuring parades and fireworks. The Universal Studio’s CityWalk has numerous bars or try International Drive with its five mile stretch of bars, restaurants and hotels. Miami has some of the best night-life in the world with funky bars and lively nightclubs and is the ideal place for celeb-spotting!
