If you're looking for some serious rest and relaxation with a hefty dose of Red Sea sun, Dahab could be just the place. A former sleepy fishing village, it's quickly become known as one of the best places to snorkel, dive and windsurf in Egypt. Thankfully, the pace of life has remained as slow as it's always been. On dry land, it's all rugged mountains and soft, sandy beaches that give the resort its name (Dahab translates to 'gold' in Arabic.) Enjoy luxurious, all inclusive hotels, beautiful views and an atmosphere that's ultra peaceful and ultra laid-back. Bliss.
The seas the biggest attraction here, with kite surfing and wind surfing both popular. Beneath the surface, discover some of the most fascinating marine life in the world, including the famous Blue Hole, around five miles off shore. If you love shopping, haggle to your hearts content for leather goods, cotton and other locallyproduced crafts. Head into the nearby Sinai Desert for stargazing, dune buggies and a look at historical St Catherines Monastery. Further afield, Cairo and Luxor are both reachable by air or road.
Holidays in Dahab are all about kicking back and relaxing, so theres little in the way of lively nightlife. Still, youll find a clutch of Beduoinstyle cafes along the water front and many hotels in Dahab deliver their own entertainment programme.
Most of the dining to be done in Dahab is based in hotels, with many offering a wide choice of international and local dishes. Dont miss a delicious banana pancake from one of the cafes along the front and of course, the seafood here has to be tasted to be believed.
